ANSWERING THE CALL, TO GET HIM IN THE HALL

I have been welcomed into the stable of writers compiling the Tim Raines: Hall of Fame 2008 website (raines30.com).

The site's purpose is to show the Expos great was as good if not better than most of the 1980s generation of players who are in the Hall of Fame, or who will be. My first article was posted today.

It's a kick to team up with John Brattain, Craig Burley, Jonah Keri and Tom N. Tango. Each of them has a high profile when it comes to writing about baseball for a web audience; more to the point, they have a profile. On this end, it's kind of like what Conan O'Brien said after being asked how he felt about being a "relative unknown" taking over on Late Night: "Sir, I am a complete unknown!"

Ken Davidoff of Newsday is the latest Hall of Fame voter to say the Raines is a yes.

Uh Neate ... have you looked at your bio? You're not exactly a lightweight by anybody's reckoning. I think you're being a little too modest here. We're glad to have somebody with your credentials on board.

Did I mention it's your turn to buy the beer?

Best Regards

John

Thanks, JB... but do you know how many years that Conan line has been stashed away in the (cluttered, overflowing, completely disorganized) sock drawer of the ol' noggin, just waiting to see the light of day?

Well ... I can't blame ya for that. It took me years to finally drop the word "succubus" into a baseball column. I finally pulled it off about a week ago at THT.

Mother would be proud I'm sure. Dad would ask me if it's the name of a sad-sack rental bus company. (If this bus is rockin' don't bother knockin'? 24-hour servicing? Cue the clip of the bus entering a tunnel ... beep beep!)

When it's time--it's time I guess eh.

Don't forget the beer.

Best Regards

John
