JAYS FALL BACK INTO 3RD; MORNEAU TOUTED FOR AL MVP

Stuff you may have missed while you had a beer with a co-worker and he explained how he can do that to another guy.
  • It was a nice stay, but it was short: The Blue Jays were in second place for all of 24 hours, dropping below the Red Sox after last night's 4-3 to the Detroit Tigers.

Moment of pathos: In the top of the sixth, Jays down 2-1, Aaron Hill (whose error led directly to Detroit's first two runs) came up with runners on first and third and only one out. Two innings earlier, he'd come up in the exact same scenario and rapped a ground ball to third base, leading to Vernon Wells getting tagged out in a rundown between third and home plate.

Watching in the newsroom, yours truly said, "Well, Hill missed a chance to hit into the double play the last time. Let's see if he can come through here." Whereupon Hill promptly grounded to Tigers shortstop Carlos Guillen for an inning-ending double play.
  • Add SI.com's Albert Chen to the chorus of voices saying the Canada's own Justin Morneau is the right choice for American League MVP -- and that Ryan Howard is not the pick over in the NL.
  • The St. Louis Cardinasl can't let the Houston Astros -- now only 1½ games out first place -- steal the NL Central. They can't. Well, actually...
  • Matt Millen strikes again: Those of you who watch Sunday night football might have wondered where Denver Broncos wide receiver David Kircus has been hiding... turns out the Detroit Lions let him get away. How are Mike Williams and Charles Rogers doing this year, by the way?
  • Tuesday Morning Quarterback explains that NFL coaches should go for it on fourth down much more often. Just remember: You don't have to punt. Oh, and another gem: The Raiders didn't score a touchdown in the entire month of September.
  • Note to readers: NHL previews are in the hopper, I swear.

Back with a full post around midday, and yes, that little preamble makes no sense unless you watch The Office. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.
