Oz has spoken -- without much fanfare, the Rogers Jays have given Cito Gaston a two-year contact extension.
It's an easy sell, bottom line. The Jays are 48-36 under Clarence (compared to 35-39 under John Gibbons). Throw in that Gaston is good enough, smart enough and doggone it, people like him.
Bob McCown was being all high-dudgeon about the release from the Jays being worded, "the Toronto Blue Jays announce." There was no mention of either half of Godcciardi.
Hey, at least they didn't find a way to lose 100 games with a $100-million payroll.

A couple of things about Cito...
First, I'm glad he's back.
His laid back personality is a welcome relief from the permanently uptight Gibbons.
Secondly, is it my imagination or has Cito dropped more than a few pounds from the last time he last managed the team?
He actually looks younger and fitter than he did back in the glory days.
Finally, I hate to admit this but I remember him as a player with the original 1969 expansion San Diego Padres...I was just a little kid then, honest.
In those days, he was known as Clarence Gaston.
I wonder exactly where and when Clarence Gaston became Cito?
