JAYS-YANKEES: IT HAPPENS

Thursday -- Jays 6, Yankees 0: It's important to remember these aren't the real Yankees.

The real Yankees generally don't run out a pitcher who isn't even old enough to remember an era before The Simpsons. Phil Hughes (pictured), all of 20 years old, did not get out of the fifth inning, but he's going to be a good one. The real Yankees also usually aren't 8-12, and you just know that won't last, so it's hard to enjoy it. Damn those Yankees.

Tonight was basically just good fortune, one of those nights were it all came together. John McDonald beating out that infield hit to start the two-run fifth probably put the game away and let the Yankees know it was not happenin' for them. A.J. Burnett -- two good starts in a row for once -- had it working, and it was easy as pie.

(Fabian McNally, who blogs on the Yankees farm system, wrote an in-depth piece for Hardball Times about his prospects of staying in the majors for the duration of the season at the ripe old age of 20.)

NOW APOLOGIZE FOR CLUBBER'S LIP FUZZ

The Tao of Stieb and Rogers Sportsnet have made nice over that little Inbox fiasco from last Friday. Sportsnet admitted they goofed when they failed to give The Tao due credit for a YouTube find. If only some of the goofs this blog has dealt with have had as much grace and humility. (They know who they are.)

Now Sportsnet only needs to apologize for Jim Lang's dentist/porn star mustache. Oh, and on Wednesday, when the Red Sox game from NESN replaced the rained-out Jays game, we only got a few fleeting glimpses of Hazel Mae. That was totally not cool.

ZAUN GONE

Jays catcher Gregg Zaun's broken hand means like B.J. Ryan and Reed Johnson, he's gone till at least June and remember, somehow this is all GM J.P. Ricciardi's fault. It just is, OK?

Just going to throw this out there: Chris Coste, who's with the Lynx, was a minor folk hero in Philly last season when he hit .328/.376/.505 in 198 at-bats. Would trading a mid-level minor league pitcher to get that kind of production from Coste in the lineup for the 6-to-8 weeks Zaun is sidelined be worth it for the Jays? It's hard to imagine the Phillies organization will continue to have this three-catcher logjam on their Triple-A team, and will move Coste eventually.

That's all for now. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.
