"They want Winnipeg. Winnipeg will have pro soccer here again."That's the words of an unnamed investor. Here is hoping. Although MLS expansion talk is sexier, what is really needed is for every major city in the country to have a pro team. Three or, maybe, four at the MLS level and another four or five at the USL level, all supplemented by healthy semi-pro regional leagues.
It's still a few years off, but just a few years ago the thought was crazy. Don't let the national team results confuse you. The game in Canada is as healthy as ever.

DR...yeah, but after the disasters we've had in Edmonton with the pro game...do you think anyone would EVER want to do it here again? or in Calgary for that matter?
To be fair, the problem in Calgary was likely the stadium--it was too small and too hard for people to get to. And, the operations, from what I've heard, was pretty Mickey Mouse.
The TFC experience has taught us that for pro soccer to work in Canada it has to be professionally run.
So, although I agree Alberta might be a tough nut to crack, I'm not convinced you can't make it work.
Find the right ownership (and I personally know the guy - make that nut - who last owned the team in Edmonton), as well as a decent place to play (there isn't one in this city right now for a team looking for an intimate grass field stadium) and some local talent (not sure about that either??) then you might get some sort of turnout.
My guess is Calgary would have a better shot at getting something off the ground - considering the footy following I know of down there.
Although, it would take economic turn around for anything to come to fruition in the next few years.
