OH, TO JOIN THE RUSH, AS THE SEASON BUILDS

As a former goalie, I can very much appreciate the desire to score (and for this goal to count).
Alas, even in the North America it never would have counted...although it wouldn't have warranted a penalty shot under our rules - just a minor penalty.
Here's an idea -- let goaltenders play the puck anywhere on the ice surface but take away the protection from contact outside the blue ice. However, make the blue ice somewhat bigger than the postage stamp it is now....maybe that would generate some offence and some excitement...

As a former getter of garbage goals, my condition for bigger blue ice involves a bigger net.

I'll give the goalies another foot, if they'll give me six more inches on either side.
