Once again, the Senators have failed to acquire at the trade deadline the one ingredient they sorely lack to even begin envisioning making a long playoff run.
Not that I’m counting but this will mark the 11th year in a row that Ottawa has entered the playoffs without a genuine number one goalie.
Mind you, at the rate that the Senators have been delivering stinkers since January, missing the playoffs has suddenly become a distinct possibility for this spineless squad.

The deadline deal that stuns me is Huet to Washington for a second round pick. Ottawa would have certainly offered more than that. I know that Montreal would not have wanted to trade within their division, but the playoffs are almost upon us, and at that point the divisions no longer mean anything. I am amazed that Bob Gainey didn't seek to get more for his asset.
