Jim Rushford's fine hitting seems like something positive to talk about following the Lynx's 9-5 setback (boxscore, play-by-play ) vs. Durham tonight. He's hitting above .300 and he's been a solid player night in, night out, with the caveat that the Lynx (25-31) probably didn't see him batting No. 5 at this point in the season. Still, he's a game, and as a left-handed pitcher who converted to the outfield at the pro level, he's an intriguing veteran player.
Gary Burnham was on base three times and jacked his on-base average up to .443, second-best in the league. This revs our engine, which just tells you how far gone we truly are.
Jason Hammel (4-5, 3.42) laboured to get through five innings for the Bulls (95 pitches), which seems to be a franchise-wide condition in the Rays organization (looking at you, Scott Kazmir). Zack Segovia (1-7, 4.79) pitched just OK for Ottawa.
It's sort of a matchup of unknown variables tonight. Charlie Weatherby is making his first Triple-A start vs. Durham righty Tony Peguero (0-1, 8.06, 1.99 WHIP), who only joined the Bulls rotation once Andy Sonnanstine was called up by the Rays.
