It's odd how the Toronto Argonauts have done a bit of a 180 with their signings this season.
Last year they brought the quote, unquote troubled Ricky Williams, not there was anything wrong with that. As a purely football move, having Williams at running back was a useless fetish, since the Argos offensive line couldn't open many holes for him to run, plus it put them in a position where they had to win the Grey Cup to validate the move. Today's signing of offensive tackle and former No. 1 overall draft pick Steve Morley (pictured), like last week's addition of fellow former NFL lineman Mike Pearson and the off-season pickup of guard Taylor Robertson (a graduate of LaSalle Secondary in Kingston), is a pure football move. It won't generate one-100th of the buzz, even though getting Morley, with his experience in the NFL, might go farther toward making the Pinball Clemons' crew a legit CFL contender. It's odd how that works out.

Ricky Williams really didn't have his heart into playing football last year, though. You could tell that the guy had lost whatever competitive edge he once had, and was done as a player. You can't just go through the motions in football.
Tell you what, though -- if the Argos could ever pry Casey Printers out of the NFL and into an Argos uni, they would be instant Grey Cup favourites. Wouldn't the CFL love to see a Grey Cup with Printers and Dickenson going head to head?
That would be a show. The CFL really doesn't have any "breakout characters" at QB anymore... the days when you had Flutie, Allen, Ham, Dunigan, Danny Barrett and Kent Austin each starring in the league are a long time ago.
Call me crazy, I still think Ricky would come back to the Argos in 2008 and play fullback. I drank the Kool-Aid on that one.
