LYNX: GOOD TIMES, AT LAST

Word of their status as charter members of the (Almost) No Homers Club must have got back to the Lynx, or at least Jason Jaramillo, down there in the Research Triangle. J.J. went 3-for-4 and had the club's first multi-homer game of the season in a rousing 4-3 win (boxscore, play-by-play) over Durham.

Manager John Russell did something that's almost unheard of in most diamond precincts, having Anderson Garcia pitch three innings with a one-run lead to get the save. Garcia went nine up, nine down, including five strikeouts to go along with eight punchouts from winning pitcher J.D. Durbin (2-4, 5.35), so the manager looks pretty smart there. The bullpen needed some rest and Garcia actually needed fewer pitches (37) than Brian Sanches did in a two-inning save on Tuesday.

So when it comes to the Lynx' home-run total on the season vs. Durham's in this series, it's now a 9-9 tie, thank you very much. Cleanup man Gary Burnham (still looking for his first dinger of 2007) carried over his good hitting, going 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.

Meantime, Russell has been selected to manage the International League squad in the July 11 Triple-A All-Star Game in Albuquerque. Nice. Torey Lovullo, a one-time Lynx player who now manages division-leading Buffalo, will be a coach.
