MAKING THE 4-ON-4 ARGUMENT

Damien Cox in today's Toronto Star:

"(T)elevision ratings suggest there's little appetite for such conservative hockey as we wander into June, and when hardworking and chippy (dirty?) Sammy Pahlsson has become the star of the Cup final, you know the circus has definitely left town.

"It's not bad hockey, and the intensity and hitting is terrific.

"But it's basically like watching the same sequence over and over. Anyone for four-on-four?"

True, there's other reasons beyond conservative hockey for the ratings drop. Nevertheless, it sounds a bit like what one of us (echoing Al Strachan, admittedly) said this time last year.
