- Jesse Lumsden is once again a Hamilton Tiger-Cat... but for how long?
Sure, he signed a long-term deal (by CFL standards) of two years plus and an option, and sure it's great for Ticats fans to be able to have a hometown hero to take attention away from their surpassingly sucky 2-10 team. However, it's very hard for a running back to be a saviour in the CFL. Hamilton now has a logjam in the backfield with Lumsden and two more proven backs, Corey Holmes and Josh Ranek. Could they convince someone else to overbid for Lumsden this off-season? It's a question worth asking before the Ticats make the predictable move, which would be trading the underutilized Holmes. (See Aug. 30 post for more on Lumsden.) - Well, there's one less Canuck to follow in the NFL this season: J.P. Darche, the Seahawks long snapper, needs hip surgery and is out for the season. Normally you would assume that season-ending surgery might signal the end for a 31-year-old special-teamer, but long snappers can play almost forever.
- Shout-outs: To my friend Mike Reed, who's getting married on Saturday. Also: tomorrow is both a birthday for my brother, Shawn Sager, and it's the anniversary for my friends Tanya and Jay McKegney. Best wishes all around.
That's all for now. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.
