HAMILTON, HAVE NO FEAR, JESSE WILL SOON BE HERE

Well, the pride of Burlington, Ont., Jesse Lumsden, has been given his release by the NFL's Washington Redskins, marking his second and likely final unsuccessful try to play in the NFL.

It's too bad, because if Lumsden would have caught on, it probably would have created chances for other Canadian born-and-trained footballers to play in the NFL. (There are five others, but none play glamour positions such as running back, Lumsden's position: Bears D-lineman Israel Idonije, Colts offensive tackle Dan Federkeil, Seahawks long snapper J.P. Darche, Jets offensive guard Steve Morley and Packers rookie punter Jon Ryan.)

Don't expect Lumsden back in Hamilton right away, though. The Redskins could hide him on their practice roster, but they would have to wait until Sunday and hope he's not picked up by another NFL team.

(The woman in the picture, by the way, will likely run for Canada in the next Olympics. And none of you has any idea who she is. Nice shoes, by the way.)

That's all for now. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.

It's Adrienne Power, from my alma mater, Dalhousie University. And just to let you know, this woman took home just about every academic and athletic award Dalhousie (and the Atlantic University Sports) has to offer.

It's just a lucky coincidence you happened to go to the same school as her, Pat. (I know it's Adrienne. I interviewed her right before nationals in 2002.)

Just like it's a lucky coincidence I happen to be my sister's brother.
