ON THE CLOCK

Because it's far too nice to stay inside all day.

NHL PLAYOFFS DAY 9:

  • EDMONTON AT DETROIT, 3 p.m. The Wings are starting to hit their stride, and Edmonton's penchant for penalties is catching up to them, not matter what Craig MacTavish says about the refs. I suspect Detroit will be back home for Game 7.
  • NEW YORK AT NEW JERSEY, 3 p.m. Yawn. The Devils polish off the Rangers. Don't feel sorry for Glen Sather (not with his real-estate portfolio), but feel sorry for Rangers fans. This was so not worth the nine-year wait.
  • TAMPA BAY AT OTTAWA, 7 p.m. Just so you know, I will be keeping a count on how many times Bob Cole mentions each team's players by name, just to find out whether Senators fans' allegations of bias have any merit, or whether they are full of it. (I suspect it's the latter.)
  • ANAHEIM AT CALGARY, 10 p.m. Calgary's plan -- get traffic on J.S. Giguere, knock the Ducks around in their own zone. This is dicey, depending on how the officials call it tonight. The Flames' hallmark in '04 was that they never played two bad playoff games in a row. Anaheim's Perry-Paulsson-Penner line seems to be wearing down Calgary's back end.
Now, here's hoping the Jays can score some runs for Josh Towers, cuz he's gonna need them. Mahalo.
