Meet the new channel, same as the old channel

One takeaway from the story about the launch of TSN2, courtesy the Globe & Mail: "TSN acquired the NBA package that was discontinued by Sportsnet at the end of the 2007-08 season."

Whether this is good news depends on how much your cable company makes you pay for the new channel. That goes without saying.

You know better than to even ask if there was any mention of devoting more hours to amateur and women's sports in Canada.

I know StarChoice kicked TSN Alternate off recently. So I knew something was up. Probably some money battles again.

There was a full page ad in today's G&M - they had a row of logs illustrating what sports we should expect more of. Included was the NCAA's.

Funny, I didn't see the CIS in there.

Explain to me how the CRTC Canadian content rules help domestic sports?

And I can't wait to see the Texas Tech - Boise State ratings. Maybe then it will be understood that Canadians, for the most part, don't actually care about the NCAA.

How sad am I that I saw that Texas Tech-Boise State comment and said, "They don't play each other this year!"

Media coverage in Canada has never really reflected Canadian interest in the NCAA. It's there, but maybe it's from the same few, the proud, the obscure who can name the offensive co-ordinator of the Guelph Gryphons.
