HOMETOWN BREAKDOWN...

A couple follow-ups under the Hometown Breakdown heading...
  • The Whig caught up with Mike Giffin, the Queen's running back drafted by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL draft yesterday.
  • The Belleville Bulls lost goalie Mike Murphy, who's from the Kingston area, after he "felt a "tweak in (his) back" during their loss to Kitchener in Game 1 of the OHL final last night. That won't make the task of toppling a stacked Rangers team any easier.
  • The Windsor Star's story on Kingston's Taylor Hall, the Spitfires centre, capturing OHL rookie of the year honours touches on a flaw in how the award is selected. Only one player per team can receive votes, so Hall's Windsor teammate, Ryan Ellis, who was only fourth in rookie scoring as a defenceman, got bupkes. Hall was deserving, of course, but a badly designed system will always produce a bad result sooner or later.
