IT'S ALL HAPPENING

There's a post up at Can-Am Ottawa detailing that Thursday is the big day when we'll find out the name, colour and managers for Ottawa's entry into the independent Can-Am baseball league.

Let the speculation begin over who will be our skipper come May 22. Here's the four names the paper of record gave a couple weeks ago.
  • Dave Cash: The former Expos and Phillies second baseman was with Utica in the independent New York State league last season. Don't expect anyone outside of Utica to be able to speak knowledgeably about the team.
  • Bob Flori: Flori was with Shreveport in the American Association last season. Get this: His previous clubs have included, wait for it, the Allentown Ambassadors, who went bankrupt and ended up playing out 2004 as the Can-Am's home team. Yes, that Allentown.
  • Stan Hough: The former Lynx manager was replaced in the off-season after two seasons managing the Fort Worth Cats in AA ball. He's a native Texan, so the obvious question is why he wouldn't try to find a gig somewhere close to his home state.
  • Ed Nottle: Former Triple-A manager (Tacoma, Pawtucket) was in the AA with Sioux City (Ia.) Explorers since 2006. Since managers often work on two-year contracts, an educated guess is that he's very available.
