FIBA.com reported that Brazil's top basketball official, Gerasime Bozikis, is in Spain at the Eurobasket lobbying to have next summer's last-chance Olympic qualifier awarded to Rio de Janeiro.
There's been talk of Canada hosting, but for those of us who only know what we read about in the public domain, it's just talk. It would be a huge score to host and it would keep Canada Basketball's progress on the front burner even if the senior men's national team doesn't qualify to go to Beijing.
The Brazilians, of course, disappointed at the FIBA Americas. Argentina (thanks in no small part to the Raptors' Carlos Delfino) cashed in by getting the other Olympic berth along with the Americans.
