Having taken more than their RDA of Zink (pictured) last night, the Lynx hitters moved on to the Pawsox bullpen, took advantage of a few miscues and walked away with a fortified win (boxscore, play-by-play). Matt Childers (7-2, 5.04 ERA), the recently returned Eude Brito (1-6, 6.52 ERA) and Joe Bisenius (2-3, 6.69 ERA) held Lynx killers Bobby Scales and Ed Rogers to an anemic combined 2 for 8. Okay, we know that a zinc defficiency has nothing to do with anemia, but until an opposing pitcher named Charles Tadao "Iron" comes along, you'll have to cut us some slack. (Uh, hello, Mr. Sager...? There's a crazy person writing on your blog.)
Last night, it was Pawsox manager Ron Johnson who was left wondering whether he'd yanked his pitcher too early. With two out in the eighth, Zink was lifted after giving up a couple of singles and a hit batter. His replacement, Brian Corey, promptly gave up a pair of RBI on a hit by Dusty Wathan, allowing Ottawa to tie the game. Dusty had another big night with both the bat (1-3, 2 RBI) and the glove - with no one out in the 7th, Dusty caught Joe McEwing stealing second; a subsequent hit by Bobby Kielty would likely have scored the speedy McEwing.
OoLF turning point: Top of the sixth. With the bases loaded and no outs, Childers showed his metal, er..., mettle (OK. We swear. We'll stop now.) inducing an infield fly, and then finishing it off with two Ks. A gutsy performance.
You just knew that someone named Fabio would be featured on Ladies Night, with Castro squaring off against Pawtucket's Clay Bucholz.
