Jays fans in Ottawa get a chance to see one of the club's top prospects during the Lynx' series vs. Syracuse over the holiday weekend.
Twenty-four-year-old Sergio Santos was moved up to Triple-A as the Jays shuffled some shortstops around after axing Royce Clayton. Santos, who nosedived badly in The 'Cuse in 2006 after joining the Jays organization in the Troy Glaus trade, leads the Eastern League in slugging percentage and doubles nd is third in OPS and fifth in homers. The obvious
question with Santos is what position he'll end up playing. A 6-foot-3, 240-lb. shortstop? What is this, fastpitch?
As for tonight's 5-2 Lynx loss (boxscore, play-by-play) vs. the ScranYanks, the visitors showed why they're in a race for the IL North flag -- all but one of their runs came on two-out hits. It's a pretty good race -- Scranton and Buffalo are a half-game apart heading into a weekend series that begins with a doubleheader.
The Lynx (42-70) will be getting second baseman Joe Thurston back for the final five weeks after he cleared waivers. Meantime, Lynx lefty J.A. Happ (3-5, 5.31, 1.72 WHIP) faces Chiefs right-hander Mike McDonald (4-7, 5.03, 1.50 WHIP) in tonight's 7:05 opener.
