WILL THEY HAVE POST-GAME MEALS AT THE FLYING J?

Today's Whig-Standard notes Queen's is close to a deal with the City of Kingston to use the Memorial Centre for the next few years until the campus arena is built ... of course, they have to wait for the new downtown arena to be ready for the Frontenacs (how is that going, by the way?), since the OHL team plays at home most Friday nights, which is when the Gaels are usually playing, ergo:

"Steacy said the team will also skate in Napanee because there were a number of dates the City of Kingston couldn't get Queen's ice time."
In the short run, it's not going to be a whole lot of fun for the hockey incarnations of the Golden Gaels for the first half of next season. They'll be shuttling between the M Centre and the Strathcona Paper Centre in Napanee -- great rink, less than three years old, but there is the small matter of it being a 40-minute drive from campus. But hey, there's the chance to drink at the Queen's Tavern afterward. OK, so that might not hold a lot of appeal.

It's not ideal, but apparently the new Queen's Centre is going to be a Cadillac facility.

(Semi-related: Check out this picture of David Beckham posing in football gear at sportsnet.ca. If Becks looked any skinnier he could play defence for about half the teams in the OUA. Then again, you'd want to keep trim too if you have to stand next to Posh.)

C'mon Neate! Better fact checking with respect to our beloved Napanee -- there is a Shoeless Joe's being constructed on the property of the Stratcona arena - and the boys would likely eat there before the greasy spoon of Flying J's. Although those 3am poutines are gold!

If there's a Shoeless Joe's there, it's ceased to be our Napanee.

Queen's should try to get the other team to eat at the Flying J, fill up on the buffet, and then they'll be in no condition to play. They might as well use the home-ice advantage to its full extent.

I think it ceased to by our Napanee long ago, friend. Filling up on the buffet is a wise strategy, so long as the savvy visitor's don't venture only to the salad bar, but also to the always-oh-so-tempting dessert trolley.
