MUCKLER WILL HAVE PLENTY OF TIME FOR 'MATLOCK' RERUNS... HEY, IT'S ON NOW

It's all happening. Bryan Murray is in and John Muckler is out as the Senators general manager.

Let the speculation, sane and not-so-sane, begin over who will coach the Sennies in 2007-08. Anyone with a M surname can be considered a candidate.

Muckler, quoth James Mirtle (hey, he has a M name, how about him?), "may have just unwillingly retired."

(Mirtle also has a good post up about how it could get really ugly on the ice in Nashville next season if the NHL holds up the sale to Jim Balsillie.

UPDATE: And just like that, the Predators deal their best defenceman Kimmo Timonen and a top six-forward, Scott Hartnell, to the Flyers. In return? The first-round draft choice Nashville gave up in the Peter Forsberg.

Hard to escape the feeling that this deal was an unspoken part of the original Forsberg trade. The fact that those two agreed to new contracts so quickly would lend further credence to that theory. But there's no tampering in the NHL -- no sir. Those two players and their agents never said a word to the Flyers until the league approved the deal, and they were Flyers property. (Insert Pinocchio nose here.)

That Forsberg trade as a whole, though, was easily the most asinine deal in league history. What was Nashville thinking? A first, a third, Scottie Upshall AND Ryan Parent? Awful. The Preds had a terrific young nucleus that could have kept them competitive for years, and they threw a bunch of it away in the hopes that Peter Forsberg could put himself in a time machine and be the same guy he was six surgeries ago.

You can't have these clandestine deals... what is this, the CFL?
