LYNX: WIN SLIPS AWAY, AND THE RETURN OF CHRIS MICHALAK

Turns out the Roman numerals in his name don't mean Charlie Weatherby III is good for three innings. Manager John Russell gambled that Weatherby could be in tonight's 7-6 loss (boxscore, play-by-play), but Columbus clipped him for four runs in the eighth and the ball game. Manny Alexander's three-run triple tied it, then he scored on a sac fly.

Weatherby had needed just 24 pitches to get through the sixth and seventh, so it wasn't a totally bad move, but it ended up being a downer for the Lynx (31-41). Lefty J.A. Happ had another serviceable, if not exactly efficient start and Brennan King continued his tear. Since rejoining the lineup last Monday, he's 9-for-26 with four extra-base hits, seven bases on balls and six runs scored — some serious whomp. He was on base four times today, scoring three runs.

And hey, Monday night's series finale is a blast from the past: Toledo is starting left-hander Chris Michalak (2-2, 3.22, 1.16 WHIP), whom you might remember was in the Jays rotation for part of the 2001 season. Some Jays fans would be quicker to recall that Michalak hit a triple in his first major-league at bat that year in a game in Montreal before they remembered anything about his pitching, which might tell you something.

Lynx righty Bubba Nelson (2-2, 4.80, 1.33 WHIP) opposes Michalak.
