Ducks 2 Canucks 1 in double OT (Anaheim wins series 4-1): The psychological weight of carrying his team, all of Vancouver Island and the entire Lower Mainland apparently got to Roberto Luongo. One of the greatest seasons by a goaltender ended rather ignominiously -- Luongo took his eyes off the puck, either to gesture to the officials that a penalty against Anaheim should have been called, or that the play was offsides, and Scott Niedermayer's 59-foot wrist shot drifted by him for the series-winning goal early in the second overtime.
All in all, it was a very existential ending to the Canucks' season. Albert Camus would be proud.
By the way, has anyone seen anything like what we saw with seldom-used Canucks backup goalie Dany Sabourin starting the first overtime -- and making three good saves -- while Luongo was indisposed? Even crazier was that once Luongo got back on the ice, little Andy McDonald nearly ended the series right away, beating the goalie five-hole but having the puck go wide of the net.

The Canucks are claiming "equipment problems" for Luongo, but the speculation is that he was getting IV fluids.
I am biased as a Canucks fan, but how does Luongo NOT win the Hart Trophy? The trophy is supposed to go to the Most Valuable Player to his team, and that simply has to be Luongo. I'm not prone to sweeping statements like this generally, but I really believe that if you take that guy off the Canucks, they are hanging with the Coyotes and Kings at the bottom of the Western Conference standings.
Let's put this another way -- you are the GM of Team Canada, and the gold medal game of the Olympics is tomorrow. Who are you starting right now, Luongo or Brodeur? Thought so.
