LYNX: NO DH, NO PROBLEM

The National League rules worked out in the Lynx's favour in last night's 3-2 extra-innings victory (box, play-by-play) over the Louisville Bats.

Tied 2-2 in the sixth, the Bats put runners on the corners with only one out against Lynx righty reliever John Ennis, but pitcher Bobby Livingston was due to bat. Livingston was pitching a good game, just 53 pitches across the first five innings, so it was too early to pinch-hit and besides, you can imagine what kind of phone call or e-mail Bats manager Rick Sweet would have got from the highers-up if he lifted Livingston when he was pitching well. Besides, Livingston had managed to get a hit off Lynx starter J.A. Happ (six strikeouts over five innings) just an inning earlier.

Ennis struck out Livingston and got the next hitter on a fly to centre to end the threat. The Lynx bullpen put up five more scoreless frames, including three perfect innings by Joe Bisenius. Eventually, Gary Burnham delivered the game-winning hit.
