LYNX: DUSTY BITES THE BATS; YOEL RUSH THE SHOW

Shuffling the lineup to get more right-handed batters in helped the Lynx salvage a series split with tonight's 7-2 rout (boxscore, play-by-play) of Louisville.

Dusty Wathan, the 14-year minor league vet got a second straight start at first base and contributed again, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Wathan helped Ottawa stretch the lead vs. Louisville lefty Michael Gosling with a two-out, two-strike double in the home half of the third. Following a free pass to the No. 8 hitter, pitcher Matt Childers doubled in both runners. Childers scattered seven hits across eight innings, and the Lynx won going away.

Wathan playing first base and Gary Burnham moving to the outfield does means veteran left-handed bats Jim Rushford and Ron Calloway have been on the bench. That must be worrisome for a Triple-A vet any time you go a couple days without seeing your name in the lineup, but the Lynx play Rochester this weekend and will have use of the DH again. Does it seem like there are more left-handed starters in Triple-A than the majors, by the way?

Quick Lynx note: Reliever Yoel Hernández has been called up to the Phillies since Tom Gordon is on the 15-day disabled list.

The Phillies have sent Ottawa starting pitcher J.D. Durbin, who pitched effectively (2.33 ERA in 89 innings) at Triple-A Rochester last summer. If Durbin is going to go into the starting rotation, by process of elimination Rick Bauer might be the one to go to the bullpen, or elsewhere.

(If the headline seems odd, well, it was going to be "Yoel Bumrush The Show," but that might leave the impression that we're saying Hernández is a bum and besides, not everyone would get the Public Enemy reference.
