LYNX: JARAMILLO AN UNLIKELY HITTING STAR

Lynx catcher Jason Jaramillo and lefty Brian Mazone lived up to their advance notice as a tough tandem to run on in tonight's 7-4 win (box, play-by-play) over Charlotte.

They were 2-for-3 nailing wannabe basestealers — 3-for-4 if you count Mazone picking off Charlotte's Pedro Lopez in the first inning. Jaramillo, who also nailed Charlotte's Josh Fields in Tuesday's home opener, was expected to be more of a defence-first catcher in his first year of Triple A. Instead, Jaramillo is hitting .375/.500/.500 after going 2-for-3 tonight and twice getting on base to start scoring innings. He also delivered a RBI single in the three-run fifth which extended Ottawa's lead to 7-2. Nothing sexy, but it won.

Again, another positive effort — every starter had a hit and Mazone turned in another quality start, allowing seven hits over as many innings before three relievers finished up. Yoel Hernandez notched the save. The weather should be gorgeous for tomorrow's 1:05 start — if only we didn't have work commitments.
