LYNX: GETTING THE FIRST 'W'

Brennan King gets the baseball equivalent of the national women's hockey team's John Deere cap or the Edmonton Oilers' ugly sports jacket for his work in the Lynx's first win of the year, 13-7 (box, play-by-play) over Buffalo today.

King scored the go-ahead Lynx run in the fifth without benefit of a hit -- he walked, stole second, took third on a waid pitch and scored on Carlos Leon's safety-squeeze bunt. In the sixth, King had a two-out RBI single to put the Lynx ahead by three, 8-5. Buffalo closed within a run, but the Lynx clinched it with a four-run eighth.

King, the third baseman from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was 3-for-5 with two runs scored. Lou Collier, who's 10-for-19 on this trip, had four hits, two runs and two RBI -- his return to Ottawa is off to a good start. Fabio Castro (who got the win) and Kane Davis picked up starter Joe Crowell by combining for four-plus innings of shutout relief. There were a lot of positives today.

Neate....you forgot all about the Calgary Flames ugly green hardhat...

Good catch, especially since the Flames started the trend. However, I think I read in a Canadian Press story during the women's worlds that the Flames no longer have the hardhat.

(I hope that's what it said -- I edited the story!)

Actually, they still do the hardhat thing...At least that's what I saw in the tv interviews over the past few days - having a dish helps this scribe keep up to date on all the happenings, even if I have to watch A-channel in Ottawa to watch the Sens games. Stupid Sportsnet blackouts...grrrr

Maybe the hardhat's a new colour.
