Nepean's Jesse Palmer won't play for the Montreal Alouettes and could sit out the season to become a free agent.
The Bachelor has his TV gig. He's a hot commodity after his colour-commentary work last season for the Fox Network. Regardless, let the rumours that he's going to play with Ottawa CFL Team Version 3.0 resume in earnest.

As I said over at Renegade Nation, I think Jesse gets a bit of a bad rap due to, "The Bachelor". His football credentials are actually pretty good -- you don't start any games in the NFL without knowing how to play, so as a CFL prospect he's better than a lot of the stiffs teams haul across the border every year. Combine that with the fact that he is very articulate and can speak some French, and why wouldn't you want to have this guy help you sell a new franchise to a skeptical city? If this is what it takes to get a team back, bring him on.
Kind of broke my own rule with the references to The Batch... hey, I would welcome Palmer coming here to play, it would be a talker.
He did well on Fox last season, though, and that might be his destiny.
what is happening with the Ottawa franchise story? The press seems to have lost interest reporting it.
Is the group thet Palmer senior speaks for still in the running or out of it because of too stiff a franchise fee. Has the d'Angelo/Sherman duo got back into the running due to the interst of Jeff Hunt in managing the team for them? Tell us ole swami, will we ever get a team again?
I note that mayor O'Bee wants to revitialize all of Lansdowne Park. would that help us get a team?
Larry O's outlook seems more favourable than what existed in Ottawa under Bob Chiarelli -- Mayor Bob often gave the impression that the vitality of a city was measured by the strictness of its by-law enforcement. (Case in point: That story that made the rounds about the Jazz Festival being charged for parking meters that were blocked by a stage.)
The media's focused on the Senators right now and I believe the one CFL guy at the Citizen, Matthew Sekeres, is in the process of going to Toronto to cover the Raptors for the Nat'l Post.
If we haven't heard anything, though, it's reason to wonder if this won't be put off until 2009, regardless of what ownership group wins out.
There's no question that Jesse's long term future lies in the broadcast booth. He's really quite good, and dude is almost as good looking as I am. :-) Obviously, though, he still feels as if he has unfinished business on the field -- you wouldn't have heard his father's outburst today if that wasn't the case. Rather than warm the bench for Anthony Calvillo this year, it's pretty clear he'll go make some money in the broadcast booth down South in '07, then take one more shot at scratching the football itch in '08 in Ottawa.
Yes, Mayor Larry has talked about a badly needed Lansdowne Park revitalization, and he is a lot more of a big picture, big initiative guy than was his dour predecessor. No word yet, though, on exactly what he has in mind for Lansdowne, or who is paying the bill. The City of Ottawa just had two somewhat negative experiences with P3s on some arena projects, so he may encounter some resistance at Council if the master plan is to lease the whole thing out to a private operator. (I suspect that's exactly what he has in mind.)
Leased to a private operator like Eugene M's Capital Sports? Rumoured some time ago that he wanted control of Lansdowne Park. His group is bringing us the World Junior Hockey and the CIS National Basketball tourney(in partnership with CU). A selling point to the City could be that he promises to bring events to Lansdowne Park too. Ones that boost the local economy and provide we citizen- plebes with more circus to amuse us.
Mayor L does seem to have a better sense of fun (and mischief) than Mayor B did. As long as he still is close to "zero means zero".
The Bluesfest is moving to a larger venue at the new, federal, Lebreton Flats Festival Park. There will be five stages and maybe Mayor L will not have to worry about Mayor Bs parking meters.
