LYNX: LITTLE BALL LEADS TO HOME WIN

Looks like everyone got to see Lynx manager John Russell's style of little ball in tonight's 2-1 win (box, play-by-play) over Indianapolis.

The Lynx turned to the bane of Earl Weaver's existence, the sac bunt, after Chris Roberson led off the bottom of the ninth with a four-pitch walk vs. Indy's Kevin Grybowski, who'd come in to protect a 1-0 lead. Joe Thurston pushed Roberson up and sure enough Jason Jaramillo came through with a game-tying hit. Normally, playing for one run ensures that's all you get (at least it did in Weaver's book), but Jaramillo took second on a ground ball, keeping the inning alive for Jim Rushford to drop a game-winning hit into left field.

Major sympathies to Indy starter John Van Beschoten. Dude ended up with a no-decision after throwing seven-plus innings of three-shutout ball with no walks, seven strikeouts and a 2-for-3 night at the plate to boot — at one point he had more hits than the entire Ottawa lineup in the first National League-rules game played at the Stadium since Aug. 23, 2002.

J.A. Happ gets a chance to get the first Lynx pitcher since '02 to get a hit in tomorrow's second game of the series, a 1:05 start.
