Sun Media's Rob Brodie has a post up explaining the CBC's new broadcast deal with the NHL. Basic highlights include "plans in the works for free streaming of all CBC telecasts live and on-demand at cbc.ca" and a cap on the number of Leafs and Canadiens games that are shown on Saturday nights.
It seems win-win in the capital. The Leafs fans -- the silent majority -- can access the Saturday games without it going to pay-per-view (weeknight games, fine). The Sens will have more Saturday night telecasts — it's ridiculous in 2007 that some of their weekend dates aren't on TV. Sens fans, of course, will find something to whine about, but that's neither here nor there.
(UPDATE: The Gazette's Pat Hickey is critical of the deal, pointing out CBC is paying more money for a deal that limits how often it can show the Leafs. But hey, it's great for Ottawa fans.)
