There have been two comebacks from 3-0 series deficit in the various junior hockey playoffs across Ontario this spring -- and both have an Out of Left Field tie-in.
Last night, the Junior C Amherstview Jets, who play out of the arena where one of us played minor hockey (badly) many moons ago, completed their once-in-a-lifetime comeback in the league final with a decisive 5-1 win in Game 7 against the Colborne Cobras. The Jets' Brad Weese made 97 saves across a triple-overtime Game 5 and a 4-2 win in Game 6, so suffice to say, there hasn't been goaltending like this from someone in Amherstview green-and-gold since Gord Downie -- yes, that Gord Downie -- backstopped the local midgets to an all-Ontario title in 1979. You could look it up.
A couple weeks ago, the St. Mike's Buzzers came back from 3-0 down against the Markham Waxers in the Provincial Junior A playoffs, winning The Decider in triple overtime. Who is following St. Mike's during its playoff run, calling games for Rogers Cable 10 in the GTA? Why, none other than co-blogger Neil Acharya.
So apparently your humble agents have the power to exert influence on events external to us, but it's limited to lower-tier junior hockey playoff series.
