KINGSTON GOING AHEAD WITH ARENA

Some good news -- the politicians in Kingston approved a budget increase for the new downtown arena (or LVEC). This is a triumph of the overdogs all the way -- the business community, the movers and shakers, et al., were the biggest ones who were behind this (follow the money, eh), but it's a welcome departure from what's been described as a "large 'not in my backyard' attitude which combines with inept local city politicians to ensure that nothing ever gets done." N

So that's that, save for the whining which will inevitably follow. There's no need to take potshots at either the terminal do-gooders who fought a good fight or the Frontenacs management who should be under more pressure than ever to deliver the city the team it deserves now that they can no longer use an ancient arena as an excuse.

Let's see how much attendances increases from its current levels after you the short-term bump that you typically get from moving into a new arena or stadium abates. Fronts crowds have been in the 1,800-2,200 range (very low for major junior) for so long...
