ICEDOGS HEADED FOR THE FALLS?

Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk's lame-duck Ontario Hockey League team, the Mississauga IceDogs, may move to Niagara Falls next season. The plan calls for investor Tom Bitove to buy the team from Melnuk's Capital Sports Management. Sens president Roy Mlakar was in Niagara Falls last night to make a presentation to its city council.

A group that included Don Cherry and ex-NHLer Steve Ludzik tried unsuccessfully to re-established the OHL there last winter. Niagara Falls hasn't had major junior hockey since the Thunder decamped for Erie, Pa., in 1996. One good friend of mine in the media was living there at the time and had his heart broken that day.
