HOCKEY LAST NIGHT: OIL SLICK (BUT CLEAN)

Turns out Derek Boogaard and Eric Godard have tangled before -- this is probably from an AHL game in the past couple years.

(Boogaard might not be the most imposing athlete in his own family. His 18-year-old sister Krysten Boogaard is a 6-foot-3 post player in Canada Basketball's new elite development program.)

Oilers 3 Sharks 2: Where's this discipline been most of the year, Edmonton? Mathieu Roy, whom you probably don't remember playing for the Toronto Roadrunners during their one-and-only season in the AHL (heck, you probably don't remember the Toronto Roadrunners), scores his first NHL goal.

Sabres 2 Blackhawks 1: Mind over matter... Thomas Vanek played like his mind was back home in Austria, but against the Blah-hawks, it didn't matter.

Blues 3 Devils 2: Mike Rupp is going to find out eventually that karma can be a bitch -- he got away with a couple of checks-from-behind in this one. Don Cherry should go Don Cherry on him on Saturday.

NHL Scoreboard

Headlines: Leafs d-man Ian White is out 3-4 weeks; the Penguins power broker; Toronto Marlies tickets are being marked down; Syracuse University's considering starting a NCAA Division 1 hockey program (thanks to Dan Rowe for the tip); Sportsnet's new wrap show Connected is having trouble winning some people over.

Today's better games: Sens-Rangers, 7 p.m.; Leafs-Sabres, 7 p.m.; Red Wings-Coyotes, 9 p.m.

HOMETOWN BREAKDOWN

The RMC Paladins beat the Queen's Golden Gaels 3-2 in a shootout (officially, it counts as a tie) in the Carr-Harris Cup. Ottawa native Greg McDonald factored in both Paladins goals in regulation time.

The Kingston Frontenacs were relatively quiet on trade deadline day, adding Jesse Biduke from the Ottawa 67's.

That's all for now. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.
