Someone's wicked sick and it's past 1:30 p.m., so no Hockey Last Night today. Just a quick note on the junior hockey team we've been just MILD about since childhood.
The reasons for this renewed interest yours truly has had in the hometown Kingston Frontenacs is unclear -- especially after they lost 5-3 at home last night to the Belleville Bulls, who completed a sweep of the home-and-home series and remained unbeaten against their Eastern Ontario rivals this season.
The Fronts did get three goals last night from Chris Stewart, freshly returned from the Canadian junior team selection camp, which was the Whig-Standard's post-game story. But man oh man, is it hard, for this observer, to be optimistic about Kingston's overall prospects. The Fronts had that 8-0-2-0 run in November; the rest of the time, they're 5-16-2-1.
It's been even worse in the Battle of the 613: One win in eight tries against Belleville and the Ottawa 67's, and that only win came in the season opener.
I could go on and on throwing numbers at you, but you get the idea. Good on the 67's, by the way, for their 8-4 win over Toronto last night.
