Pittsburgh media are reporting that Jim Balsillie has walked away from his bid to buy the Pittsburgh Penguins. So much for the Kitchener BlackBerries then.
It apparently has nothing to do with Research in Motion's current dealings with the Ontario Securities Commission over some of its accounting practices. Balsillie
The Pens' future in Pittsburgh is said to be contigent on Dec. 20's scheduled vote by Pennsylvania's gaming control board to award a stand-alone casino licence for Pittsburgh. One of the bidders, Isle of Capri, has pledged to build a new arena. You probably can't draw conclusions, either way, on how that's going to turn out based on Balsillie's withdrawal.
