OH, DOMI: TSN DEMOTES TIE

For those of you keeping score at home, ex-Leaf Tie Domi was given a plum TV job without credentials and while it's too early to say it's been a bigger flop than some of the ones he used to take to try to draw penalties, there's an article by Chris Zelkovich in this morning's Toronto Star noting that TSN has reduced Domi's on-air role.

Still, isn't it odd how no one seems to care about one rookie analyst who apparently isn't up to snuff yet when there was so much backlash over fellow rookie analyst Cassie Campbell's work as a fill-in colour commentator on a Hockey Night in Canada telecast a while back?

Domi is apparently struggling on TSN, which is understandable since he's new. No one cares; they cut him slack since he's an ex-jock. And granted, TSN doesn't have the cultural weight of the CBC.

Campbell, also an ex-jock, albeit a female one, got what amounted to a battlefield promotion, filling as a colour commentator on Oct. 14 when Harry Neale was snowed in and small town cheap CBC didn't have anyone else available. For the most past, she handled it like a champ. Yet some people thought "it wasn't right" to have a woman in that role. What year is this again?

Anyway, to put a twist on the old feminist saying, Cassie Campbell apparently has to be twice as good on TV as Tie Domi to be thought of as half as good. Fortunately for her, it's probably not that difficult.
