UP ALL NIGHT

Items of interest as you tried to see out past that giant Fig Newtons sticker on your windshield...

  • A.J. Burnett pitched well for the third straight game last night and the Blue Jays whipped the Twins 7-1. The Jays would have to go 28-18 (.609) the rest of the way to reach 90 wins for the year.
  • Has the Canadian Press stopped staffing some or all the Jays' road trips? The story on the Toronto Star website as of this writing is from the AP, something which has happened on more than a few occasions this season. If you're a sports page reader, it's a bit of a concern, since CP is such a good training ground for beat reporters. (Doug Smith, who covers the Raptors for the Star, is one example.) The CP has a good, young baseball writer in Shi Davidi, whose writing often shines with a real enthusiasm for the game, and only getting to read his stuff when the Jays are at home is a bit of a downer.
  • Here's a good take on the housing discrimination lawsuit against L.A. Clippers owner that was the subject of a post here earlier this week. Who ever thought, by the way, that this blog would see a post lead off with the Clippers? In my mind they're just the Buffalo Braves on an extended road trip.
  • Went out (yes, it actually happens once in a while) last night and ended up playing mini-putt with two friends and another couple. (Fifth wheel fever, catch it!) I was the only one to get an ace -- on lucky hole No. 13, no less -- then naturally took a 6 on the next hole and ended up with the lowest score of the three guys in our group. It was a slice.

Sorry for the short post. Enjoy your Saturday. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.
