Trade Spezza?

Hockey blogger nonpareil James Mirtle's assessment of the NHL's playoff push: "You can stick a fork in the bottom four teams in the Eastern Conference, with Toronto likely not far behind."

The Senators would need 58 points in their final 45 games to get into the playoffs. Don't worry, it's going to be OK.

They should have traded spezza long ago, before the rest of the league realized hes lazy and a liability.

sure he scores 80+ points... but he also sucks defensively.

Spezza still has value -- so long as a team can handle the cap hit. If you're a cusp cup contender you could do worse than adding a secondary scoring threat. Inspired by a short playoff run, Spezza might respond.

I'm not sure what he might yield though...a third rounder?

Spezza's on-ice role has changed dramatically over the past season and a bit; finesse player to instigator to dick. Whether his personal world has influenced this or it's what the Senators Coaching Staff are asking of him; either way he's an annoying presence out there and in a time when enforcers are going the way of the dinosaur, every team needs to hold on to a dick or two to draw penalities from their opponents.
