MLS expansion: Montreal's race to lose?

With the bids in, the independent reviews are piling up. OK, maybe not piling. There are only about two active writers that provide even the semblance of (inter)national coverage.

And, one has weighed in on his opinion of the expansion bids.

The Coles notes? Montreal is strong. Vancouver is likely up against it and Ottawa is, well, still a surprising addition to the list.

Although the league hasn't put a hard time line on the announcement, look for more news around the MLS Cup.

The media is ignoring Major League Soccer?

I am shocked -- *shocked*.

Locally...no. All the teams have beat coverage. It's just rare to see someone cover it nationally.

If yo like soccer and you can't wrap your head around the concept of supporting your local team and whatever big four EPL club you pulled out of a hat...then you're missing out.

Just sayin' that it's a pretty common concept.

... Spoken like a bitter Abu City fan;)! Some of us have better reasons than just hat-draws for our club support.

Well, they're currently fifth in the league with a game in hand. How about that other Manchester side that's sitting in tenth and just tied bottom-feeding Newcastle? Anyways, Ives has some good analysis in his column on the subject: I like that he gives Portland a reasonable ranking, and he's right on with Atlanta and Ottawa in my mind. I think he's underrating Vancouver and overrating Miami and St. Louis, but it's awfully tough to predict what will happen at this point in time.
