Orange alert...

There's a great story percolating if the Syracuse Orange pull off a win over Johns Hopkins in the NCAA lacrosse final later today, which is airing on The Score at 1 p.m. ET.

Syracuse lost a member of its lax family five days before the Final Four when Aaron Guadagnolo, the brother of players Kyle and Tom Guadagnolo, was killed in a motorcycle crash. They also came from five goals down to beat Virginia 12-11 in double overtime in the semi-final on Saturday. Who knows, perhaps the players are emotionally spent, but wish them well.

This is coming from someone who knows next to nothing about lax and only really heard of it on account of being a fan of Syracuse basketball, but it would be a hell of a story if the Orange pull it off.

(UPDATE: Syracuse 13, John Hopkins 10, with Stephen Keogh of Toronto contributing two goals to the good guys' cause and Ohsweken's Sid Smith playing a solid game on D to clinch a spot on the all-tournament team.)

There is a little Canadian connection--well, Six Nations, anyway--in this one. Long-stickman Sid Smith, who won the Tom Longboat award as Canada's top aboriginal athlete a couple years ago, plays for the Orange.
