You know that law school riddle about how you could be considered liable if you neglect to clear the ice off the sidewalk in front of your house, and then someone slips, falls into the street and causes a driver to swerve and collide with an oncoming vehicle?

That more or less sums up Steve Downie. Careless and reckless, but not always culpable. Did he think he was playing Quidditch and could fly over Fedor Tyutin? (This is all tongue-in-cheek, by the way.)

Here's hoping linesman Pat Dapuzzo will be out of the woods -- 20 stitches at least and broken bones.
