The New York Post is reporting Joe Torre turned down the Yankees' relatively paltry offer of $5-million per year (plus $1-million for each playoff series win) to manage next season.
Depending on the veracity of Chuck D's favourite fishwrap, it seems like a slap in the face to a manager who, in a sense, deserved to either be fired outright if the Yankees didn't want him back for a 13th season, not have it framed like he was turning down an offer. No manager ever resigns.

Agreed, the Yanks look petty. Fire him or come to an agreement on a contract but this is a classless way out.
Who's making the decisions in the Bronx ( ok the brass is meeting in Tampa )? Cashman, Hal & Hank ( is that their names? ) Lonn Trost, is it by committee ( I think that's impractical ). It ain't George.
