HOOPS: REBOUNDS LEAD TO ROUT

Leo's lads control their own destiny at the FIBA Americas — it could all set up that tomorrow night's game vs. Puerto Rico could be for a semi-final berth. To quote a great movie that was set in Las Vegas, it was kill the body and the head will die in today's 97-80 rout of Mexico.

(There's also some pun involving a dance with someone answering to Destinee, but we're trying to class the place up around here.)

Coles Notes version: Canada couldn't put the ball in the pool at Caesar's early on, but got so many second and third chances — they ended up pulling down 35 offensive rebounds to Mexico's 30 total rebounds — that it didn't matter. At one point midway through the first half, they were shooting in the low 30s, had turned the ball over more than Mexico and were still up by about 10 points. Sam Dalembert was limited by foul trouble, put six guys scored in double figures, led by Jermaine Anderson with 17 points and Juan Mendez with 15.

Again, cishoops.ca is the go-to on this. Hometown breakdown note: If Dave Smart is still engaged with the national team, it means the younger Rob Smart would end up coaching the Carleton Ravens on Friday in their exhibition game against the U of Illinois.
