UP AT 6: ON FURTHER REVIEW, A "DICK DUFF" HEADLINE IS SO VERY, VERY WRONG

Five dollars? Get outta here...

  • New York Islanders centre Mike Comrie (an ex-Senator) is making the scene with Hilary Duff (pictured). Hey, that's not the New Islanders Style -- he's supposed to date a cougar ex-supermodel at least dozen years his senior.

Comrie's dad is one of the founders of The Brick furniture store chain. Rumour has it he didn't ask Hilary Duff out until he found a restaurant where he didn't have to pay for one year.

Is it cruel to say, "Let's see how long before Comrie's agent demands a trade?
  • NHL: The Oilers signed Ducks forward Dustin Penner to a $21.5-million, five-year offer sheet. That's what happens when you let Kevin Lowe sign cheques with a stamp.

As mc79hockey says of the move, "it suggests that Lowe lacks the vision and willingness to do something that’s really difficult -- telling the city (of Edmonton) that the moves aren't there and that this team is going to suck for a while."

Meantime, as a colleague pointed out last night, this might force the Anaheim Ducks to tell Scott Niedermayer to get off the pot on his retirement decision.
  • CFL: Alouettes 26, Argos 13. The new Argos baby-blue -- excuse us, Cambridge blue -- third jerseys look high schoolish in a good way. The Argos offence looks high schoolish in a bad way.
  • Like the Argos, Canada went two-and-out in men's hoops at Pan Am Games. Of course, cishoops.ca has the lowdown.
  • Three minor-league players each hit for the cycle on the same night.
  • Garrett Robinson, the junior hockey hockey who suffered severe head injuries in a car crash last winter, is trying to make a comeback. Wish him well.
  • Last but not least, congrats to Queen's middle-distance man Braden Novakowski. On Tuesday and Wednesday he clocked times of 3:48.80 and 3:45.45 in the 1,500 metres -- easily the fastest outdoor 1,500s by a Gaels runner.

That's all for now. Send your thoughts to neatesager@yahoo.ca.

Is Hilary Duff still all sickly and anorexic looking? She was a cute looking kid until she decided to starve herself.

Regardless of whether or not it turns out to be a good signing, you have to love the fact that Kevin Lowe called Brian Burke's bluff. Burke blustered that he would match any offer sheet to Penner, but now won't be able to do so without some pretty fancy roster footwork. He had to know that signing Bertuzzi, the ultimate high risk/high reward guy, would constrict his ability to re-up Penner. I like Burke in a lot of ways, but there are times when his tough guy act wears thin. It will be fun to watch his news conference now that he has been bopped in the nose by a fellow GM.

That honestly didn't occur to me -- Burke's eagerness to give his buddy Bertuzzi a chance might end up costing him a younger big forward who can score.

Same time, the Oilers will have about a $9.7 million cap hit across the new few seasons on Penner, who is second-line material, and Sheldon Souray, who can be a gong show behind his own blueline.

Oh, and apparently Hilary Duff is looking fairly healthy these days.
