LYNX: GETTING THAT INDIE SPIRIT

It's all happening, maybe: Sun Media's Don Brennan spoke to Can-Am League commissioner Miles Wolff for today's editions about the indie baseball circuit taking over the Coventry Rd. ballpark should the Lynx leave:
"We've been to town several times and met with (Lynx GM) Kyle Bostwick on a number of occasions. It's a great ballpark, we love the city ... it'd be a great addition to our league.

"It's simply a matter of the lease ... the Lynx currently have it. But we'd very much like to be in Ottawa in 2008 and in Montreal in 2009." -- Ottawa Sun

This is an exciting enough prospect, to say the least.

Paw Sox 6 Lynx 4 (boxscore, play-by-play): Manager John Russell apparently built up to getting ejected. The Lynx led 3-2 with two outs in the Paw Sox seventh when Fabio Castro lost three straight batters on walks and gave up a go-ahead two-run single to Joe McEwing. Russell, as the good manager should, let home plate ump Christopher Conroy know what he thought of his strike zone judgment and he got run.

(Ottawa Lynx Blog has some video evidence about lingering issues with the umpires that might have carried over from the Norfolk series. It's hard to blame Russell for sticking up for his players, especially when the team is not winning.)

Paw Sox closer Travis Hughes later whiffed Pedro Swann for the final out with the tying runs on second and third in the ninth inning. Ouch.

The prized Boston pitching prospect, Clay Buchholz, had mixed results in his Triple-A debut: Two earned runs over three innings, with Randy Ruiz taking him out for a two-run homer.
