LYNX: KING WEARS A TATTERED CROWN

Brennan King salvaged a modicum of pride for the Lynx tonight with his first home run all month — remember, this the club's No. 5 hitter — in the next-to-last inning of the doubleheader loss vs. Richmond. King is a Southerner, from Murfreesboro, Tenn., so hopefully he had some family or friends out to see him break his dinger drought and take, wait for it, an 8-7 lead over Gary Burnham for the team home run lead. Eight to seven. It is what it is.

The whole durned human comedy (sorry, watched The Big Lebowski last night) keeps perpetuatin' itself. Short on pitching, the Lynx (40-64) had closer Brian Sanches start in the second game. He threw 40 pitches before coming out in the third inning of the 10-2 loss (boxscore, play-by-play). In the first game, Kevin Nelson (he's listed as Bubba, but that handle doesn't travel north of Watertown, New York) pitched a seven-inning complete game, throwing five scoreless frames in between the R-Braves putting up six in the first and tacking on a singleton in the seventh in the 7-2 romp (boxscore, play-by-play). (This was Ottawa's "home" game.)\

Incidentally, Scarborough native Pete Orr is struggling with the stick in his demotion to Triple-A. He went 1-for-7 out of the leadoff spot across the two games (not that it hurt the R-Braves at all) and is hitting .191.

Again, the Lynx have a poor record, but honestly, the players don't deserve scorn. The record is a reflection on the organization, the injuries the Phillies have had to their pitchers. It's baseball, it's meant to be enjoyed for what it is, for being out at the park on a perfect summer night and for the little individual challenges within the game. Winning is just the cherry.

The leading Lynx HR hitter only has eight of them? Are you kidding me? I realize that Lynx Stadium seems to be a pitcher's park, but only 8? Yikes. If in fact "chicks dig the long ball", these guys are going home alone most nights.

Dennis,

Would I ever lie to you?

Hey, that means more balls in play and more fouls hit into the stands.
