GARY BETTMAN DIDN'T GO HOME WITH NO PROM QUEEN

Sports Business Journal reported yesterday that the NHL is trying to get a new TV deal with ESPN. Why, why, why? This is the NHL, once again, setting the bar way too high.

Friend of the blog Dan Rowe, who knows the media side of sports very, very well, wrote a guest post a couple months ago that the NHL really needs "to settle on a cable network and try to build a long-term relationship with them ... In its next U.S. TV deal, the NHL should try and move up the cable dial to a channel that gets better placement and draws a more general audience, like the USA Network or FX -- and stick with them for everything, including the Cup final."

Not to take Dan's words, but for the NHL, apparently that's just too pragmatic and logical.

Is that a reference to the Sean Connery line from, "The Rock"? I love it -- one of my favourite movie lines of all time!

"I'll do my best."

"Your best? Losers always whine about 'their best'. Winners go home and @#$# the prom queen."

One of the top ten movie lines of all time, IMO.
