Third baseman Brennan King is giving the Lynx hitting a jolt in his first week since coming off the disabled list. He set up the tying and winning rallies by twice getting on base with two out in today's 4-3, 10-inning win (boxscore, play-by-play) over Toledo on getaway day.
King was slotted into the 3-hole for the first time in a while (it was a day game after a night game and catcher Jason Jaramillo was given a break). He drew a two-out walk ahead of Gary Burnham's game-tying homer off Mud Hens starter Ron Chiavacci in the eighth. In the 10th, again with two out and none on, King doubled off Aquilino Lopez. Pinch-runner Chris Roberson eventually scored the winning run on Jim Rushford's single. (Toledo put Burnham on since he'd driven in the first three Lynx runs.)
Righty reliever Clay Condrey, another guy who just came in this week, threw four innings of one-hit ball to get his first win of 2007. It all adds up to the Lynx (30-39 on the season) possibly feeling a little more excited about their eight-game return trip to Columbus and Toledo.
Congrats to Carl Kiffner at Ottawa Lynx Blog, who's nearing the 10,000-hit plateau.
